Mahboobeh Mahmoodi
Dr. Mahboobeh Mahmoodi received a Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering with an emphasisin biomaterials in 2010 from Amir kabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) which isrecognized as a center of excellence in biomedical engineering. Since 2007, she has been with the department of material engineering at the Azad University, where she is currently anassociate professor. She has also served as the chair of the department of biomedical engineering atthe Azad University since 2010. She serves as a lecturer for the orthodontics, periodontics, andendodontics residents at the Dental School of Yazd. Her research interests include nano-biomaterials, surface modification of biomaterials, drug delivery, laser drug delivery, surface modification by laser and plasma, synthesis of scaffold for tissue engineering.
Most of her research has focused on the synthesis of drug encapsulated in core/shell nano-fibers for tissue engineering, as well as the synthesis of Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) encapsulated in chitosan nanoparticles for wound healing. Her research has also opened a new door in the field of nano-particles and has indicated the feasibility of application of PLGA/CS-encapsulated tPA nano-particles as a drug for removal of blood residue.
In addition to authoring/co-authoring over 40 journal papers, over 60 conference papers and conference abstracts, and 11 books and book chapters, she has been granted 18 patents and been a recipient of several national and international awards for the fabrication of the Endobutton Implant and Smart Wound Healing Device.
Dr. Mahmoodi joined the Khademhosseini Lab in May 2019 as a Research Scholar in the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA and is excited to bring her experience in drugdelivery and nanoparticles to the group.
