Martin Hartel

Martin Hartel is an LA native and a PhD student in UCLA’s bioengineering department. He graduated with a B.S. in nanoengineering from UCSD in 2018. There he worked under Professor Joseph Wang on wearable biosensors and biofuel cells for healthcare applications. Martin also participated in founding Worldcare Technologies, a start-up biotech company working on bringing accessible HIV monitoring to low-resource communities in Tijuana, Mexico. With Worldcare, Martin competed and placed first at the National Academy of Engineering’s Business Plan Competition in 2017. At the Khademhosseini lab Martin is excited to leverage the interdisciplinary environment to work on advancing wearable sensors and organ-on-a-chip projects for drug screening.
In his free time Martin enjoys camping, hiking, and relaxing on the couch with a good videogame.
